Tradelink, the trade fabricator with 20 years experience of understanding installers’ needs continues to buck the trend for battening down the hatches in difficult trading conditions by investing heavily in its IT to further streamline production procedures.
The fabricator with bases in Cambridgeshire and Suffolk now has at its disposal Scan Station software from First Degree Systems. This barcode tracking software is designed to improve the factory’s productivity and efficiency by enabling operators to control the flow of work through production. Tradelink invested some £65,000 in this alone and is using it in conjunction with its own barcode tracking system. Jim Moody, Managing Director at Tradelink explains: “We have been customising the IT purchases to include our own systems because our customers are familiar with Tradelink’s way of operating and we don’t want them to see a noticeable difference.”
This customer ethos is further demonstrated with the purchase of Window Designer for the web, which is now up and running and replaces the previous process of issuing installers with a dongle and a license, allowing them instead to link straight to the website and source prices for windows and process orders from their laptop, mobile phone or tablet. Entry screens are compressed for use on tablets and other mobile devices and can be personalised for each individual customer.
This also means that every time a new profile is launched, instead of issuing CDs to customers for them to update themselves, it can be done online by Tradelink, negating additional work for the installer. Customers can log on remotely and more than one person is able to log on at once from the same company.
Also in the pipeline as part of the drive to improve IT is a Window Designer Dashboard Reporting System. This is designed with the purpose of allowing more intelligence with data in order to replicate reporting and measurements, and it too can be customised. The system has the added benefit of helping customers to recognise industry trends, installation costs and margin.
Jim comments: “As a fabricator with World Class Manufacturing principles, every member of Tradelink is committed to making things easier and better, not just for other members of the team, but also for our customers. We are pleased to be making the investment in IT to further streamline our processes and make installers’ lives that bit easier, especially in an economy which is increasingly seeing investment on this scale is put on the back burner. We will continue to invest and are looking forward to having a fully integrated software package towards the end of the year.”
