I have a few questions for you:
Do you want to serve your clients better?
Do you want to win and keep more business?
Do you want to stand out?
Then read on…
I’ve just gotten off the phone to a wonderful tenant who is moving in to a property of ours in the next few weeks.
She was asking a few questions. One of them being “Can we start moving stuff in a week earlier, and we will pay extra?”
I called my Dad to confirm and he said “Sure, she doesn’t have to pay any extra…but tell her she doesn’t get a bottle of wine now!” (in a jovial manner).
So I said to my Dad: “That’s not a bad idea actually, having a bottle of wine in the house for them for when they arrive. It’s a nice touch.”
“Yes, or even a bunch of flowers.”
“Ooh – I LOVE that idea!” I replied.
“Great, let’s do that then – but don’t tell her – it will be a nice surprise for when they move in.”
How many other landlords do you know who welcome their tenants with a nice touch like this?
And, who are willing to let the tenants move in a week early with no extra cost?
I haven’t met one, yet – it doesn’t mean they’re not out there – I just haven’t met them yet…so the song goes!
What I can say, though – is this – the landlord or estate agents or indeed, any business, who is doing something personalised like this will get noticed, they will be talked about (positively) and they will succeed long term.
“Your Business is Built on the Quality of Your Relationships”
All to often, in today’s world – second class service has been offered and unfortunately, accepted by customers, in replacement of first class service. And it’s not going unnoticed.
Customers remember when you made them feel something was a chore for you and they also remember when you couldn’t do enough for them”.
Too many businesses are operating out of a place of ‘lack’ or out from a mindset of “What’s in it for me?” – instead of asking themselves on a daily basis “How can I best serve my customer?”
Customers, as should your staff – should be openly appreciated – without them, there is no business.
It’s easy to stand out in today’s society – just do something no one else doing.
Make a genuine gesture of “thanks” for someone’s business and trust in you.
Doing something thoughtful will get you noticed, it will get you recognised, and it will get you recommended.
Also – having this consistent approach will keep you business. When your customers are being approached by other companies (and they will be) and you are continuing to offer them something that no one else is – they will stay with you. You have created brand loyalty. Now, that is pretty special.
You have customers for life, as long as you treat them that way.
When I ask people today “what influences your decision to buy?” The answer I get time and time again is – by recommendation from someone I trust.
Why not be the person others are recommending, and see your business flourish as a result?
Send them a birthday card. Send them a ‘YouTube’ link to something that may be of interest to them. Send them a ‘Thank you” card. Recommend someone to them for another service they need. Write them a handwritten note. Call them to ‘check in’ and see how everything is going. Have a gift sent to their office or home.
I’d be interested to know – what’s the best service you’ve received and why?
