A Bangor University student has wowed a North Wales glazing firm and landed a job at Hughes Glass and Glazing.
Elen O’Connor, 21, is in her final year of a product design degree at the University of Bangor
The undergraduate joined rapidly-expanding Hughes Glass and Glazing on the Llandygai Industrial Estate at Easter for work experience and made such an impression that she was offered a full-time job.
She currently manages the glass company’s national contracts worth millions of pounds.
One client she manages has more than a thousand stores across the UK and Ireland.
Hughes Glass and Glazing managing director Adam Lacy said: “Elen’s worth her weight in gold at Hughes Glass. She is keen, adaptable and very hard-working.
“It’s great to be able to offer a helping hand to a soon-to-be graduate – they are so useful for business, especially for a company like ours because we’re all about looking for new and better ways of doing things.
“Students like Elen can come in and we welcome their new ideas.
“Hughes Glass and Glazing has always worked closely with our local university and we will continue to harness the great talent that is there.”
Elen added: “It’s a great opportunity working at Hughes Glass. My role has given me lots of experience, responsibility and confidence. I know this will help me when I come to choose a career after my studies.”
Hughes Glass and Glazing is a family firm and is the leading commercial glazing company in North Wales.
It supplies the glazing for thousands of shops in the country and among its clients are Greggs, DW Sport, Edinburgh Woollen Mill and Peacocks.
