It may always be wise to be prudent, if not timid, when the good figures keep arriving but that seems to be precisely what is occurring at the moment. We also have the mouth watering prospect of a successful FIT Show to come as well.
The latest set of figures from Glenigan show that the construction sector is still heading in the right direction. (See our coverage.) It found that activity is 20% higher than a year ago; the biggest increase since January.
Most importantly, the Glenigan report has indicated that this growth is more evenly spread. “As we head towards the mid-point of 2014, the prospects are improving for construction volumes across the whole of the UK,” said Allan Wilén, Economics Director, Glenigan. “A renewed strengthening of non-residential work is the most significant driver of the high 20% increase recorded in our latest Index, though the underlying value of project starts also increased across the housing and infrastructure sectors.”
This all reflects the CBI’s own recent survey which stated that the economy is growing at its fastest pace since its records began in 2003.
ARE YOU FIT?
On top of this, we have the FIT Show at Telford (Telford International Centre, 10-12 June 2014) that looks like matching the storming success of last year. It is important for all of us that we have a standalone exhibition as a focal point. As I have said many times before, an industry this size must be able to support an event, if not annually, then certainly every two years.
As its Managing Director, Paul Godwin, points out about the work that the exhibitors have put in on his Facebook page: ‘Astonishing creativity, skills and craftsmanship. These fantastic facades are amazing; thousands of people all from the same industry.’
MyTradeTV will also be there, covering the show and the team hope to see you there. You’d be made to miss it!
