The storms and floods of winter 2014 may seem a long time in the distant past now that we are enjoying a particularly mild spell. Statistics however, in the report by the Met Office and the Centre of Ecology and Hydrology February 2014 warn us that these weather fluctuations are something we should be prepared to learn to adapt to and quickly if we are to avoid persistent flooding and serious coastal erosion.
The paper documents the record breaking weather and flooding, considers the potential drivers and discusses whether climate change contributes to the severity of our weather and its impacts.
They state ‘’There is an increasing body of evidence that extreme daily rainfall rates are becoming more intense. There is no evidence to counter the basic premise that a warmer world will lead to more intense daily and hourly heavy rain events’’. They also go on to say ‘’this impacts on individuals, businesses, and infrastructure have been substantial’’.
Of a housing stock in England and Wales of circa 26 million of which over 3.5 million are located in areas prone to flooding, clearly there is a very real need to protect our property from the risk of flooding and with this mind MACO are pleased to announce the development of their highly secure, weather tight solution for entrance doors, designed specifically for our UK markets.
With additional perimeter locking around the bottom and the hinge side of the door you can be assured that water egress is prevented. Successfully tested to PAS1188-1:2009 we already have manufacturers and installers offering the product with great interest, especially in areas where flooding has been a problem in the past.
You would imagine that a great deal of force would be required to operate such as system, but this is not the case. The door uses the MACO i.S security mushroom cams that self-adjust and make closing and locking the door no more challenging than operating a standard front door system from MACO.
If you are already using the Multi Matic tilt turn system from MACO you will recognise the main components that work in conjunction with the door locking solution. It also means that a ‘Flood Door’ solution can be offered from stock items without holding additional ‘specialist’ parts.
