Presenting a new grip concept for compact angle grinders, FEIN has launched ErgoGrip, an extended handle that provides users with greater comfort, better safety and the ability to work continuously for longer.
Moulded to shape the user’s hand, the ErgoGrip handle is particularly well suited to grinding and cutting applications where users will be working for extended periods of time. Instead of gripping the tool around the motor housing, as on traditional tools, the FEIN ErgoGrip models allow the user to grip the tool from the rear. All the force can then be efficiently applied in the direction of the work. The ergonomic handle also allows greater control and manoeuvrability even when wearing thick welder’s gloves.
In addition, by moving the user’s hand to the rear of the tool and away from the cutting blade, angle grinders with FEIN’s ErgoGrip are even safer to use than standard models. Safety is further improved with the option to include a lockable switch or dead man’s switch. Designed to cut out immediately if the switch is released, models with this function are perfect for industrial sectors with very stringent safety requirements.
FEIN has more than 100 years of experience in the development of angle grinders and is the first manufacturer to include angle grinders of this design at all power ratings between 1100W and 1500W.
Rainer Warnicki, Head of Product Development at FEIN, commented: “We trialled various grip designs in extensive studies and practical tests to find the optimum handle shape. Our main priority was maximum contact between the palm and handle. Thanks to the slim grip zone with large contact face, for which a patent is pending, the user has to exert less force and doesn’t tire as quickly.”
FEIN ErgoGrip models are available across all three of its compact angle grinder ranges, including the Solid entry-level range of ergonomic angle grinders, which are available with 1100 W of power and basic functions for deburring, grinding and cutting work. Designed for grinding disc diameters of 125 mm, they are available from specialist retailers from £114.95 (excluding VAT).
The Power product range has in-built POWERtronic tacho electronics, giving them 400 W more power than Solid models of the same size. The tools also benefit from a wide range of safety functions designed to protect the user. A soft start enables the tool to be started up gently and safely, whilst restart protection requires the angle grinder to be switched back on manually – ruling out the possibility of an unintended restart. In the event of the disc catching, the blockage monitoring system shuts the tool down so it doesn’t spin in the user’s hand unintentionally and electronic overload protection is also fitted as standard. Angle grinders in this range are available from £149.95 (excluding VAT) with a 1500 W rated output and disc diameters of 125 or 150 mm.
The Inox range of compact angle grinders have been developed with a variable speed setting for stainless steel processing. Their speed can be electronically adjusted in an infinitely variable manner between 2500 and 8000 rpm. The larger mechanical gear reduction also ensures stability at low speeds. This makes the tools ideal for grinding, satin-finishing and brushing stainless steel. Prices start from £209.95 (excluding VAT).
