Why a flood door?
With storms of the magnitude experienced over recent years and forecast to be more commonplace in the UK, experts are warning the rise of sea temperatures and wind speeds in the North Atlantic are partly to blame. Sudden and heavy storms result in saturation of surface water causing flooding as the water cannot soak away into flood plains, or to existing drainage as this is often overwhelmed by the ferocity of the rainfall and in the worst cases causes flash flooding.
According to the ONS (Office for National Statistics), close to 4 million properties in the UK are at risk of surface water flooding, one third higher than those that could be flooded from rivers or the sea. Therefore ways must be found to flood proof our homes as much as feasible.
How does the homeowner significantly reduce the risk of surface water flooding?
Houses could be built with better drainage, non-return drain valves, non-return air bricks to existing and new housing stock, further porous drives can be added to support the management of water flow overall. In addition and through 15 locking points MACO can offer a flood safe option.
MACO’s combined C-TS door lock, offers the markets smoothest single handle operation which in turn is used in conjunction with our Multi Matic tilt turn components, resulting in 15 secure mushroom shaped cams creating a tight flood seal around the sides and the bottom of the door thus preventing water egress. The real surprising element is that the door is still very easy to operate with no heavy handle force or double handle required
