With the Festive Season well on its way security is probably one of the most important things going through people’s minds as many stockpile presents through the month and look to visit family on the big day.
Nowadays a Smart Home is becoming increasingly popular with the ‘Internet of Things’ making home security much more versatile. Remote locking systems used via smartphones and apps appear increasingly popular with homeowners and would seem to be simple and cost effective solutions for smart security.
The simplicity of a smart security system that connects to home Wi-Fi offers a level of personal control that seems to give consumers great peace of mind. A typical entry level solution might include a couple of door and window sensors as well as a motion detector that link to an integrated hub. All of these then communicate with a Wi-Fi system that connect to an app or smartphone. As smart security can be expanded to give greater security options with lights, sirens and outdoor surveillance options if desired, homeowners are seizing the benefits these systems offer at the swipe of a screen.
iCloud storage makes a cost effective and simple storage solution for consumers with more limited finances who cannot necessarily afford higher tech alternatives. However, being able to personalise a system where individual rules can be created so that the components work together seamlessly is very appealing.
Whether its camera surveillance or a comprehensive home security system that doubles as a home automation system this sector’s business appears to be booming as we head towards 2017.
Safe As Houses

Taking a step into the hospitality arena, SALTO has announced that its chic AElement RFID lock now supports the company’s JustIN Mobile technology. This gives hotel guests a convenient and keyless experience using mobile access.
Guests and hotel staff can use their mobile devices as a key which provides them with secure access to either certain areas of a hotel, to the entire property or to a number of global locations if desired.

With Awards Season still in full swing, one of the UK’s security experts, Abloy UK sponsored the Locksmiths category and consequently presented Crothers Security with the Locksmith Of The Year Award at the recent Irish Security Institute Association (ISIA) Awards 2016.
Held this year at Powerscourt Hotel and Resort Spa, in Co. Wicklow the Awards aim to recognise Irish security companies covering all aspects of the sector from manned security to smart technology and locksmiths.
Crothers Security was set up by Kevin Crothers in 1980 to provide the first 24-hour burglary repair service in Dublin. Subsequently, this grew in two years from supplying and installing a variety security products to opening a retail outlet and locksmith shop in Walkinstown. Further expansions have seen the company grow its services and product line to include Access Control, CCTV as well as burglar and fire alarms.
The Irish sector is progressively moving forward with the Locksmith division experiencing rapid developments as PSA (Private Security Authority) is set to be introduced in 2017. On top of this changes to Building Regulations will be brought into effect and will align them with current European Standards in relation to Escape and Fire Doors where compliant specifications will be essential.
Steven Crothers, commented: “This is the third time we have won the ISIA Locksmith Of The Year award and are delighted to have retained it from 2015. This is a testament to the excellence of our staff as well as our careful selection of quality products, epitomised by Abloy’s range.”
Pat Jefferies, Commercial Director at Abloy UK, said: “This is the first year that Abloy has been associated with the Irish Security Institute Association Awards and we’ve been impressed with the event organisation and friendly atmosphere.”
